The foundation was born from a deeply traumatic experience faced by our Founder and Visionary, Mrs. Chinyere Kalu, a German-trained Registered Nurse from Amaekpu Ohafia, Abia State, Nigeria.
While visiting clinics and hospitals in Nigeria shortly after her nursing education, Mrs. Kalu encountered an elderly woman crying in severe pain, repeatedly shouting, “My stomach, my stomach!”
Upon inquiry, she was told the woman had not been attended to because she could not afford consultation or treatment fees. Without hesitation, Mrs. Kalu offered to pay all medical bills and asked that the doctor be called immediately.
Tragically, the delay proved fatal. By the time care was initiated, the woman had passed away.
It was later discovered that the woman’s children lived abroad and could have afforded the care but she had been brought to the hospital by a Samaritan unaware of her financial situation.
This avoidable loss of life left Mrs. Kalu deeply traumatized and ignited a lifelong conviction:
Seeking guidance, Mrs. Kalu shared her burden with her Spiritual Father, Rev. Prof. Edmund Igboanusi of Umuowa Orlu, Imo State.
Remarkably, he shared the same vision:
A system where the poor receive medical care without financial barriers
A structured approach to reaching the most deprived communities with healthcare and welfare services
This alignment of purpose became the foundation of Consolata Health and Welfare Foundation for Africa e. V.
To establish sustainable healthcare solutions and social safety nets that restore dignity and health to every individual, regardless of their financial status. We envision a community where quality medical care is a fundamental right, not a luxury.
Providing a concrete response to the healthcare crises and social needs of the most vulnerable populations in Africa. Our focus lies with the elderly, abandoned children, and the less privileged who are often left behind by traditional systems.
